Dead White Male Press was founded by James and Rich, two bibliophiles who shared a frustration with the modern publishing landscape.

Over countless conversations — many of them over a few ales at the local pub — we began to feel that contemporary publishing had become increasingly driven by trends, branding, and identity categories, sometimes at the expense of originality and literary quality.

As white men north of forty, we often felt out of step with an industry that seemed more interested in fashionable narratives and market positioning than in simply discovering exceptional writing wherever it might be found.

We realised there must be countless talented writers whose work has been overlooked, not because it lacked merit, but because it did not align neatly with current tastes or commercial priorities.

​

At the same time, the number of people seriously pursuing writing has never been greater. From weekend workshops to creative writing degrees, there are more skilled and committed writers than ever before competing for a very limited number of publishing opportunities.

We believe there are many remarkable books that deserve readers but have struggled to find support in the current climate. We want to find those books and give them a home at Dead White Male Press.
